Victor Canales, a native of Decatur, Indiana, has been appointed as the United States Specialty Sports Association National Coordinator of Fastpitch officials. Canales is a veteran umpire of the NCAA belonging to 12 Division One conferences as an official. He has NCAA post season experience on his resume as well as 16 collegiate conference championships. Canales officiated the NAIA World Series twice and has participated in the NJCAA post season tournaments as well.
Victor is a three-year member of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league's staff where he has officiated the highest level of softball. His goal is to is bring and spread the knowledge he has gained through experience to the USSSA staff.
"I see this as an opportunity to give back to a game that has taught me so much" said Canales. "Putting in a training program from the ground up is exciting and I can't wait to get started."
Canales will be in charge of the national program for development including the USSSA academies and the promotion of umpires. He will be putting in a grass roots training and evaluation program, before moving on to the USSSA elite umpire academies, slated to be in place for fall of 2018.
"The future is bright and I hope to honor the people who have helped me reach my achievements by training the next generation of officials. We intend to prepare these officials for today's speed of the game and philosophies so that they can aspire to the highest levels of softball!”
