First month of USSSA Space Coast Complex events

February 5, 2018, Viera FL: As January and the first month of events for USSSA Space Coast Complex comes to a close, USSSA would like to recognize and thank both Robb Behymer the owner of Top Gun Events and Ralph Calderon, USSSA Slowpitch Florida State Director, for bringing their events to the complex.
Throughout January, USSSA Space Coast Complex hosted three separate events. The inaugural event on January 13-15 was the USA Elite Select Top Gun Challenger. The event was a qualifier for the 2018 USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championships this summer in Kansas City and brought 45 elite travel softball teams to the Space Coast.
Robb Behymer of Top Gun Events raved about his experience hosting at the brand new facility. He said, “I was really honored that USSSA asked Top Gun Events to host the inaugural tournament at the USSSA Space Coast Complex. I would like to thank Don DeDonatis, Don DeDonatis Jr, the Executive Board and Jami Lobpries for the opportunity. My experience was exceptional. The feeling you get walking into a facility as spectacular as this is ‘extraordinary and exceptional’. The athletes seemed excited to have the opportunity to play at such an elite facility. I received nothing but compliments from the coaches, parents, and athletes. The opportunity of the athletes to play in a stadium setting with video and performance feedback really was something I never thought I would witness in my lifetime”.
The USSSA Space Coast Complex is a brand new all AstroTurf complex complete with 15 fields, three high definition video boards on the three stadium fields, covered batting cages, and Flightscope. On the main stadium, USSSA engineered a fully operating TV production room where games can be live streamed worldwide creating a one of a kind experience for athletes and teams.
Robb continued, “The comments relayed to me were about the beauty of the fields, the superior technology, the awesome selection of the concessions, and how well the tournament was run. The facility was extremely well maintained and very well managed by Kevin Reynolds and his staff.  I cannot recall a single complaint about the complex the whole four days we were there”.
Collins Catering is the official partner of the USSSA Space Coast Complex and offers an extensive menu at all four concession stands throughout the complex for guests. Pepsi provides all of the prepackaged snacks and beverages that are available at the complex.
“I have had time to reflect on the USSSA Space Coast Complex since hosting the Challenger, and it is my belief that this is by FAR the absolute BEST sports facility in the United States and maybe beyond. This is truly an “events” facility that can cater to wide variety of baseball and softball enthusiast. It has easy access, shaded spectator seating, exceptional facility management, the best field conditions, neighboring restaurants and hotels, and air-conditioned/heated college observation rooms. There is easy highway access to the airport (big bonus).  The Cocoa Beach is a mere 15 minutes away” Robb said.
Robb and Top Gun Events were an integral part in the success of the inaugural tournament for USSSA Space Coast Complex. Through his expertise, attention to detail and high energy the event went off without a hitch and made for a memorable tournament.
Ralph Calderon, USSSA slowpitch Florida state director followed up the next two weekends of January with the Winter Fest Championship tournaments. Through Ralph’s efforts over the two weekends, the tournaments brought in about 100 teams total to the Space Coast. The tournaments kicked off the 2018 slowpitch season and held the first ever games on the newly renovated Red Quad.
Calderon said, “The teams and I all loved the complex. The staff was very nice. Overall a great experience had by everyone.” Both of the Winter Fest events were a success and USSSA Space Coast Complex looks forward to future events hosted with Ralph.
Collins Catering put on a beer special for both weekends where guests could purchase reusable cups and pay a discounted price for refills.
This February, the USSSA Space Coast Complex will host its largest event yet with the President’s Day Super NIT. The event will bring hundreds of families to the Space Coast and will be the first time the complex will host a baseball event.
